บทคัดย่อ/คำอธิบาย :

The effect of different carbon sources at different concentrations on Isochrysis maritima in heterotrophic condition was investigated. Marine microalgae Isochrysis maritima was obtained from USM Algae Culture Colleption (USMACC) andcultivated in six different organic carbon sources (glucose, sucrose, lactose, fructose, sodium I acetate, glycerol) at different concentrations (5 g.L-1, 10 g.L-1 20 g.L-1, 40 g.L-1) to investigate the suitable carbon source and concentration to maximize the growth of this species. Glucose at 5 g.L-1 and 10 g.L-1 concentrations showed hligher cell growth and was further investigated onto mass cultivation at 50 L culture medium. The results revealed that the microalgae growth was significantly higher at 10 g.L-1 (38.13 ± 0.65 x 106 cell.mL-1) glucose than in 5 g.L-1 (11.63 ±10.57 x 106 cell.mL-1) but not significantly different between them in term of biochemical compositions. Total SFA, MUFAland PUFA were also high under heterotrophic condition but the high ratio of omega-6/3 PUFA (2.11 - 10.32%) recorded showed that this cultivation condition was not suitable for aquaculture feed, but can be potentially used for biodiesell production.
