บทคัดย่อ/คำอธิบาย :

Sebilangan besar sebatian baru yang mengandungi pirido, pridothieno atau analog berkaitan telah disintesiskan melalui kaedah umum atau terubahsuai. Penekanan telah diberikan kepada pencirian struktur molekul dan penentuan orientasi molekul dalam keadaan pepejal dan hablur cecair. Selain itu, perhubungan struktur-sifat yang menarik akibat daripada perubahan kepanjangan rantai karbon alifatik dan jenis zat penukarganti pada kedudukan strategik dalam sistem molekul tersebut juga diperhatikan. Sementara sebatian baru 5-asetil-4-(4'-alkiloksifenil)-3-siano-6-metilpiridina-2(1 H)-tiona dan terbitannya disintesiskan, sebatian analognya dengan atom atau kumpulan berfungsi -0 dan -S dalam sistem heterosiklik (digolongkan sebagai isoflavon, oksazepina, benzotiazol dan triazol) juga diberikan perhatian. A considerable number of newly derived compounds possessing pyrido, pyridothieno or their analogues have been synthesized by conventional and modified methods. Emphasis has been given to the elucidation of molecular structure and determination of molecular orientation in solid as well as in liquid crystalline states. In addition, the interesting structure-properties connectivities resulted from the variation in aliphatic carbon chain length and type of substituent at strategic position in the molecular system has also been observed. Whilst the new 5-acetyl-4-(4'-alkyloxyphenYI)-3-cyano-6-methylpyridine-2(1 H)-thiones and its derivatives have conveniently been synthesized and characterized, their analogous compounds with functional -0 and -S atom or group embedded in the heterocyclic system (classified as isoflavone, oxazepine, benzothiazole and triazole) have also been paid attention.
